Hadith
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

Quran
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as respectable women) so as not to be annoyed.”
Hadith
And ‘A’isha (radiy Allāhu ‘anhā) said: ‘It is essential for a women to wear three things when she prays: a shirt, a jilbāb and a khimar…’And ‘A’isha (radiy Allāhu ‘anhā) used to untie her izar and use it as a jilbāb.
